Trist never dreamed that she would become a sex worker, but she had a feeling seldom girls thought they would. She never held any illusions about sex; she never thought sex was more than two people connecting for a time, and if one of them got paid at the of the night so much the better. Trist never thought about falling in love. She never thought it could happen to her, not the sex worker, the girl who had everything planned out as far as the next day was concerned. Trist especially never thought she would fall for a guy like Ryan, her pimp, who was dangerous and chilling and someone you didn’t tell your mother about. Ryan was someone she didn’t expect but he made her feel as though she were on fire, every part of her was engulfed by the flame of his being. Trist was scared to love Ryan. Trist decided against her desire and tried to fall the safe type instead, a man like Aaron who she could see a real future with, white picket fence and all. Trist didn’t plan for any of this, especially the drugs, the lying and the murder. Trist never knew that being a sex worker was the least of her problems and in a city like Los Angeles, they were only going to get worse.
